Twenty health professionals from various healthcare facilities across Ghana have completed an advanced endoscopy training programme at the University of Ghana Medical Centre aimed at strengthening specialist digestive disease care in the country.

The three-day training, held from July 6 to 8, 2026, was organised by UGMC’s Gastroenterology Unit in collaboration with the World Endoscopy Organisation and the Ghana Association for the Study of Liver and Digestive Diseases.

Participants underwent intensive sessions combining advanced theoretical instruction with real-time clinical applications designed to enhance their practical endoscopy skills.

According to UGMC, the programme focused on building the expertise of clinicians involved in the diagnosis and management of gastrointestinal and digestive diseases, equipping them with techniques that can improve patient care across Ghana’s health facilities.

The medical centre said the initiative reflects its commitment to continuous professional development, world-class patient care, medical training and research.

Organisers noted that strengthening local specialist capacity in endoscopy is expected to support earlier diagnosis and better management of digestive and liver-related conditions in Ghana.
