The Service has taken a step forward in healthcare delivery as it has officially commissioned a modern Biomedical Engineering Workshop at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital. The event, led by Dr Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, the Director-General of Service, marks a major milestone in the country’s ongoing efforts to strengthen health systems and improve service delivery.

The Biomedical Engineering Workshop, described as the first facility of its kind within the GHS, is set to play a transformative role in ensuring that medical equipment across the region remains functional, reliable, and safe for patient care, as well as a training ground for biomedical engineers nationwide.

Dr Kaba expressed appreciation to the Korean Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH), for their unwavering support and contribution to infrastructure development and investing in human capacity building within Ghana’s health sector. He emphasized that modern healthcare delivery depends not only on skilled professionals but also on the availability of well-maintained equipment, without which even the best expertise can be limited.

The Director-General reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with KOFIH and other development partners, highlighting opportunities for further collaboration in technology transfer, health systems strengthening, and human resource development. He further tasked the regional health leadership and facility managers with establishing strong governance systems, prioritizing routine maintenance, and ensuring the workshop is used effectively.

The Country Director for KOFIH Ghana, Mr. Bomin Yang, emphasized that the facility is not just a physical structure, but a platform to build technical capacity, improve equipment maintenance, and ensure safer, more reliable health services. He reaffirmed KOFIH’s commitment to supporting the Government of Ghana and key health institutions.

Dr Robert Amesiya, the Director for the Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate expressed gratitude to KOFIH for the timely intervention of the provision of the workshop, noting that it will also serve the needs of the Eastern and Central regions. He assured that the establishment will be managed well, and will be used for its intended purpose.
As Ghana continues to invest in its health sector, the Biomedical Engineering Workshop stands as a symbol of progress, partnership, and possibility, ready to improve clinical outcomes and strengthen health systems not only in Greater Accra but across the nation.
