Director-General of GHS Joins Kyebi Government Hospital to Mark Its Centenary

Today, Dr. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, joined the Kyebi Government Hospital for the launch of the centenary celebration of Kyebi Government Hospital and a fundraising event.The centenary is being celebrated under the theme, “A Century of Quality Healthcare, A Future of Hope and Excellence,” with management using the occasion to raise funds for essential projects within the facility. Other dignitaries present at the launch included former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, the Okyehene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin II, and other high dignitaries.

In a speech delivered  by the Director-General, he noted that over the past 100 years, the facility has served many influential individuals from the town and surrounding communities. “It is time for it to grow bigger and expand. It is time for the facility to receive the necessary support from its citizens,” he said. He further appealed to the facility’s management and staff to continue offering quality services, with professionalism as their hallmark.

In an address, the Special Guest of Honour, Okyehene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin II, stated that what began as a humble facility has grown into what is now proudly known as the Kyebi Government Hospital, serving thousands of patients each year from Kyebi, the entire Abuakwa South Municipality, and neighboring districts.

He highlighted some of the hospital’s achievements, noting that it was ranked the third-best performing hospital in 2021, second-best in 2022, and ultimately the overall best-performing primary-level hospital in the Eastern Region in 2023. Additionally, Mrs. Audrey Adinkra was adjudged the second-best midwife in the Eastern Region in 2020, while Mrs. Evelyn Darkoh was named the Municipal Most Outstanding Staff at the primary level in 2024.

“These achievements are a testament to the dedication, professionalism, and resilience of the hospital’s management and staff i.e the doctors, nurses, pharmacists, laboratory personnel, administrative staff, and support workers who continue to serve with compassion and commitment,” the Okyehene stated.

He appealed to staff to show respect to their clients while delivering professional services. He also pledged to support the facility with an amount of GHC 150,000 as his contribution towards the earmarked projects.
