Agenda 111 Hospital in Ahanta West Left Idle as Concerns Mount

Ghanaian Journalist Justice Baidoo has raised concerns over the state of the Agenda 111 hospital in Ahanta West, located in Bokoro, his hometown.

According to him, the facility, which is within walking distance of his grandfather’s home, was commissioned on December 5, 2024.

However, he noted that at the time of commissioning, many residents expressed concerns about the level of preparedness of the hospital to deliver healthcare services.

He indicated that the dissatisfaction among residents was reflected in the 2024 general elections held shortly after the commissioning, where Bokoro—traditionally a stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)—voted for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the first time.

Mr. Baidoo stressed that the situation should have prompted urgent action to make the facility operational. Instead, he said, 15 months after commissioning, the hospital remains unused and is gradually deteriorating.

He described the facility as overgrown with weeds, with some installations already showing signs of damage, warning that the delay in making the hospital functional could lead to higher rehabilitation costs in the future.

He further noted that the political shift in Bokoro reflected a broader trend across Ahanta West, which also voted for the NDC for the first time since 1996, largely as a protest against perceived neglect.

Mr. Baidoo has therefore called on the government to act swiftly to operationalize the hospital, cautioning that further delays could worsen the situation and undermine efforts to improve healthcare delivery in the area.
