The people of Apitikooko, Dokyiwa/Binsere and neighbouring communities in the Obuasi Municipality are expected to benefit from improved access to healthcare following the commissioning of two new health centres and staff accommodation by AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine.

The facilities, comprising the Apitikooko Health Centre and Staff Quarters and the Dokyiwa/Binsere Health Centre, were constructed at a total cost of GH¢6.8 million under the mine’s 10-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan (SEDP).

According to AngloGold Ashanti, the fully equipped health facilities will reduce the distance residents travel to access healthcare services while improving the delivery of quality medical care.

The newly constructed staff quarters are also expected to help attract and retain healthcare professionals in the beneficiary communities.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Managing Director of AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine, Ing. Samuel Boakye Pobee, said the projects reflect the company’s commitment to empowering people and advancing sustainable development in its host communities.

He noted that the investment forms part of the mine’s broader strategy to strengthen healthcare delivery and improve the quality of life for residents.

AngloGold Ashanti reaffirmed its commitment to working with government, traditional authorities and other stakeholders to implement community development initiatives that create shared value, strengthen institutions and promote sustainable development across its operational areas.
