The Hospital’s Pharmacy Department has commissioned a newly renovated 24-hour pharmacy annex aimed at improving service delivery and patient care.

The facility, opened on Thursday, 16 April 2026, is located in the former Adherence and Counseling building and marks the first phase of a broader redevelopment plan for the hospital’s pharmacy services.

Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Yakubu Seidu Adam, reaffirmed management’s commitment to continuous improvement, noting that additional upgrades will be rolled out in the coming months.

The Director of Pharmacy, Dr. Charles Ofei-Palm, described the project as the first major upgrade to the 24-hour pharmacy since 1996 and part of efforts to reposition the department as a key access point for healthcare.

The upgraded annex introduces bedside delivery of medicines to all wards, a digital messaging platform for client interaction, fully air conditioned facility with a spacious waiting area for customers and 24-Hour call-in services via intercom and direct lines.

These new services are expected to significantly improve patient experience by reducing waiting times, ensuring quicker access to medications, and minimizing the burden on patients and their families. Bedside delivery, in particular, will help ensure timely treatment for admitted patients, while the communication platforms will enhance access to information and reduce congestion at the pharmacy.

The commissioning was marked by a symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by the Central Management team, heads of units, and key stakeholders and donors.
