Nana Yaa Ampem Darkowah Otchere has filed a lawsuit against The Bank Hospital in Cantonments, Accra, alleging negligence in the surgical treatment of a chest-related medical condition.
The suit, filed on February 26, 2026, through her lawyers, Safo Katanka @ Law, states that the plaintiff, a social worker, was referred to The Bank Hospital from Ridge Hospital. Following admission and medical examination, she was diagnosed with right catamenial pneumothorax, among other conditions.
According to the statement of claim, hospital officials initially informed her that the surgical procedure had been successful. However, she alleges that she was later subjected to a second operation for the same condition.
The plaintiff further claims that after reviewing post-surgery X-rays, she realised the procedure had not been successful, contrary to the assurances given by the hospital’s medical staff. She subsequently requested a transfer to the Cardiothoracic Centre at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
She contends that despite a recommendation from a senior cardiothoracic surgeon at Korle Bu, The Bank Hospital failed to facilitate her transfer.
In her suit, she also alleges that the surgical procedures were performed at the wrong location, stating that the operation was conducted near her armpit instead of the appropriate area below the breast.
The plaintiff is seeking a declaration that the hospital was negligent and breached provisions of the National Health Policy (revised in 2020). She is also demanding damages amounting to GH¢4 million.
The Bank Hospital has entered appearance through its lawyers, Lithur Brew & Company, led by Tony Lithur, indicating its intention to contest the claims in court.
