The Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate, in partnership with Jacaranda Health, has launched the PROMPTS platform, popularly known as “Nurse Mary,” to strengthen maternal and newborn healthcare through digital technology.

The interactive two-way SMS platform was unveiled at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital and is designed to provide pregnant women and new mothers with timely, personalized health information and support throughout pregnancy and the postnatal period.

The launch brought together officials from the Ghana Health Service (GHS), representatives of Jacaranda Health, healthcare professionals, development partners and other stakeholders, who highlighted the role of digital health innovations in reducing maternal and newborn complications by improving access to reliable health information.

Through the “Nurse Mary” platform, mothers will receive health education messages, appointment reminders and responses to their health concerns from trained Ghana Health Service nurses and midwives.

Chairman of the event and Head of Clinical Services at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Rev. Dr. Martin Owusu Boamah, encouraged pregnant women and new mothers to take advantage of the platform, describing it as a reliable source of timely and credible health information that will support them throughout pregnancy and after childbirth.

The Greater Accra Regional Director of Health Services, Dr. Robert Amesiya, said the platform complements existing maternal healthcare services by empowering women with accurate information while encouraging timely healthcare-seeking during pregnancy and the postnatal period.

He expressed confidence that integrating the “Nurse Mary” platform into routine health service delivery would improve the quality of maternal and newborn care across the region.

The initiative marks another milestone in the partnership between the Ghana Health Service and Jacaranda Health, reinforcing their commitment to using digital technology to improve maternal and newborn health outcomes in Ghana.
