The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has disbursed more than GH¢157 million in claims to healthcare service providers across Ghana for services rendered in April 2026.

According to a statement issued by the Authority’s Corporate Affairs Directorate, the payments were made in two tranches—GH¢43.7 million on April 14 and GH¢113.6 million on April 30.

The disbursement covered a mix of accrued and unvetted claims dating as far back as 2019, which had remained outstanding due to what the Authority described as “isolated peculiar challenges.” It also included some vetted claims covering services provided up to March 2026.

The NHIA explained that the prompt settlement of claims forms part of its commitment to ensuring uninterrupted healthcare delivery for members of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) across the country.

Private health facilities received the largest share of the payments, followed by public and mission health facilities.

In terms of distribution, high-volume facilities accounted for 64 percent of the total claims paid. Clinics and health centres received 23 percent, while CHPS compounds and specialized facilities received nine percent and four percent respectively.

The Authority reiterated its resolve to clear outstanding arrears and strengthen the financial capacity of health facilities nationwide to support efficient service delivery.

The statement was issued by the Corporate Affairs Directorate of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).
