The Ministry of Health has defended the suspension of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) CEO Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo, describing the action as a necessary administrative measure aimed at ensuring accountability, patient safety, and adherence to established procedures.
The suspension has triggered industrial action by doctors and nurses at the hospital.
According to the Ministry, the decision followed a public announcement on the closure of admissions at KATH’s Accident and Emergency Centre, which it said was inconsistent with President John Mahama’s directive on access to emergency healthcare services.
The Ministry described the strike as unfortunate and maintained that the suspension was carefully considered to uphold discipline and proper governance within the health sector.
