The Ministry of Health has announced the payment of two months’ salary arrears to newly recruited nurses, reaffirming its commitment to supporting health workers across the country.
In a statement dated April 28, 2026, and signed by the Ministry’s spokesperson, Tony Goodman, the Ministry assured affected personnel that additional payments covering three months—from May to July 2026—will be made as previously scheduled.
The Ministry expressed appreciation to nurses and other stakeholders for their patience and cooperation, noting that efforts are ongoing to strengthen the health workforce and improve service delivery nationwide.
Health workers experiencing challenges or seeking clarification have been advised to contact the Human Resource for Health Development Directorate for assistance.
On recruitment, the Ministry disclosed that government plans are underway to employ about 16,000 health workers this year as part of efforts to absorb trained professionals into the system.
So far, financial clearance has been secured for approximately 8,000 recruits, with steps being taken to obtain approval for the remaining positions.
The Ministry emphasised that no health worker would be engaged without the necessary financial backing and indicated that the approved clearances have been distributed across various health cadres to ensure a phased and structured recruitment process.
It further stressed that the official recruitment portal remains the only authorised platform for applications, a measure aimed at ensuring transparency, fairness, and accountability.
Acknowledging concerns arising from the high number of applicants—some of whom were unsuccessful—the Ministry said it is working to secure additional clearances to accommodate more qualified candidates.
