The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has announced the temporary suspension of three credentialed pharmacies following the detection of irregularities in claims and service transactions under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
The affected facilities are DelDem Pharma Limited, located at Iron City in Weija; Paramedica Pharmacy on Guggisberg Avenue in Ablekuma; and Desh Chemist, located at Amasaman along the Odumase High Street in the Greater Accra Region.
According to the Authority, the suspension follows a routine claims verification exercise which identified anomalies in transactions submitted by the facilities. The NHIA said the findings raised reasonable suspicion of fraud and possible abuse of the NHIS Provider Service Agreement.
The three pharmacies have therefore been placed under immediate temporary suspension from participating in the NHIS, effective May 14, 2026.
During the suspension period, the affected pharmacies are not permitted to provide services or dispense medicines under the National Health Insurance Scheme. The NHIA has advised members who rely on pharmaceutical services to seek care from other accredited providers nationwide.
In a public notice, the Authority emphasized that it remains committed to ensuring transparency, accountability, and prudent use of public funds in the delivery of accessible healthcare services.
It also warned that healthcare providers who defraud or attempt to defraud the Scheme commit an offence and are liable on summary conviction to a fine or a term of imprisonment of up to 10 years, or both.
The NHIA further cautioned all credentialed healthcare providers against fraudulent practices that undermine the sustainability of the Scheme and potentially deny members access to quality healthcare services.
