Consumer Health Week 2026 is set to take centre stage in Accra from April 6 to April 12, bringing together key stakeholders across Ghana’s health sector to promote awareness, strengthen systems, and empower citizens to take charge of their health.
Organised by Development Impact Partners in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service, the week-long initiative is strategically anchored on World Health Day, observed on April 7. The programme is designed as a national platform to foster consumer health literacy, promote patient safety, and enhance trust in Ghana’s healthcare delivery system.

At the heart of Consumer Health Week is the recognition that consumers play a critical role in the effectiveness of health systems. As direct users of medicines, vaccines, medical devices, and health services, their access to accurate information and protection of their rights are essential for achieving equitable and people-centred health outcomes.
The event will begin on Monday, April 6, with public engagements across selected locations, focusing on awareness creation, dissemination of practical health tips, and community-based health screenings. The official launch will take place on Tuesday, April 7, coinciding with World Health Day. This will feature high-level policy dialogues and discussions on key issues including consumer protection, patient safety, health systems strengthening, access to care, innovation, and equity.

A major highlight of the week is the Consumer Health Engagement, Learning and Innovation Fair, scheduled for April 7–8. The fair will provide an interactive platform for exhibitions, professional workshops, innovation showcases, and on-site health services. Health institutions, private sector players, and approved vendors will display products and services within a regulated environment that emphasises ethical promotion and responsible use.
Beyond the launch and fair, activities will continue through to April 12, with sustained public engagement, health education campaigns, and screening exercises aimed at reaching diverse populations. The programme is structured to engage a broad audience, including the general public, patients and caregivers, health professionals, policymakers, insurers, private sector innovators, and civil society organisations.

The initiative is expected to deliver tangible outcomes, including increased consumer awareness and health literacy, improved trust in healthcare systems, stronger collaboration among stakeholders, and greater visibility for innovative health solutions. It also aims to generate actionable policy recommendations to inform future health strategies in Ghana.

Ultimately, Consumer Health Week 2026 represents a significant step towards building a more inclusive, responsive, and consumer-centred health system. By placing individuals at the core of health discourse and action, the initiative seeks to empower Ghanaians to make informed decisions while strengthening accountability and quality across the healthcare landscape.
