The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has strongly refuted claims circulating on social and traditional media that a high percentage of applicants involved in the ongoing military recruitment exercise have tested positive for HIV.
In a press statement signed by Naval Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations, the GAF described the reports suggesting that about 60 per cent of applicants failed medical screening due to HIV as false and misleading, urging the public to completely disregard the publication.
The statement clarified that the medical screening phase of the recruitment process is still underway and that no results have been released or officially declared, contrary to the assertions being made in the reports.
“The medical process is ongoing and no results have been declared as at now,” the release emphasised.
The Armed Forces noted that efforts are currently being made to trace the source of the misinformation, which it described as mischievous and calculated to mislead the public.
The GAF further cautioned media practitioners, especially bloggers, vloggers and other content creators, to uphold professional standards by verifying information from credible sources before publishing.
