Management of the University of Ghana Medical Centre Ltd. (UGMC) has begun discussions with the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, popularly known as MahamaCares, to support the upgrade of the Centre into Ghana’s first quaternary medical facility.
Welcoming the UGMC delegation, the Administrator of the Fund, Madam Obuobia Darko-Opoku, reaffirmed MahamaCares’ commitment to collaboration and partnership to help realise the vision.
She said the Fund is prepared to work closely with UGMC to support specialist training for healthcare professionals nationwide, noting that such capacity building is essential for the effective utilisation of advanced medical equipment.


Madam Darko-Opoku explained that strengthening specialist skills would significantly enhance the treatment and management of cardiovascular and other non-communicable diseases in Ghana, which form the core focus of the MahamaCares programme.
On his part, the Chief Executive Officer of UGMC, Dr. Abdul Samed-Tanko, expressed the Centre’s readiness to lead nationwide specialist training initiatives.
He disclosed that UGMC has embarked on an extensive retooling and human resource strengthening programme aimed at repositioning the Centre on a transformative path toward becoming Ghana’s first quaternary medical centre.
