The Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South, Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, has announced the imminent commencement of expansion works on the Palliative Clinic at the Korle Bu Polyclinic and Family Medicine Department.

The project is aimed at enhancing the capacity of the facility, which serves as a critical national training hub for specialists in palliative and geriatric care.

The announcement follows a pledge made by the lawmaker on Monday, February 9, 2026, to improve healthcare infrastructure within his constituency.

Speaking during a second-phase visit to the facility to assess infrastructural and logistical constraints, Vanderpuije underscored his commitment to moving beyond rhetoric to provide tangible support for healthcare delivery.

“I have requested the management of the facility to urgently submit the necessary bills of quantities and architectural drawings to my office to enable the commencement of work without delay,” he stated.

In addition to the palliative clinic expansion, the MP disclosed plans for the refurbishment and covering of the facility’s Emergency Unit. He urged the hospital’s management to expedite the submission of estimates and technical drawings to facilitate the execution of the project.

The Head of Department (HOD) of the facility, Dr. George Bediako Nketiah, accompanied by members of the extended management team, led the MP on an extensive tour of the premises.

The delegation inspected several key areas, including; the Out-Patient Department (OPD), consulting rooms, the Emergency, Laboratory, and ECG units, the male and female wards, the existing palliative clinic and the site designated for a new multi-purpose structure.

The visit allowed the MP to receive firsthand information regarding the daily operational challenges faced by staff and patients at the polyclinic.
