Residents of Madina and its surrounding communities in Accra are set to benefit from improved healthcare services following the commissioning of a modern surgical theatre at the Madina Polyclinic, Kekele.

The facility, established in 1974, had operated for 52 years without a surgical theatre, limiting its capacity to perform surgical procedures for the growing population in the area.

The new theatre was constructed through the efforts of Freedom Aid Ghana (F.A.G) with sponsorship from the Australian High Commission in Ghana. The project was officially commissioned at a ceremony attended by several dignitaries and community leaders.

Among those present were the Australian High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E. Berenice Owen-Jones, the Member of Parliament for Madina, Dr. Francis-Xavier Sosu, the Accra Regional Health Director of the Ghana Health Service, as well as the Madina Chief and the Madina Zongo Chiefs.

The commissioning marks a significant milestone for the polyclinic, which serves an estimated 365,000 residents in Madina and nearby communities.

Stakeholders at the event described the facility as a major boost to healthcare delivery in the area, as it will enable the polyclinic to perform surgical procedures that previously had to be referred to other hospitals.

The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts by development partners, health authorities, and local leaders to improve access to quality healthcare in rapidly growing urban communities.
