The Founder and President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has disclosed that he has been living with Parkinson’s disease for the past eight years.
In a personal post, Mr. Cudjoe said he had earlier revealed at the beginning of the year that he was managing a movement disorder, which he has now confirmed as Parkinson’s.
He noted that the disease has no cure, but can be managed with medication and lifestyle adjustments, including diet and physical exercise.
He expressed gratitude to neurologists in Ghana for their support, acknowledging the limited number of specialists in the country. Mr. Cudjoe also revealed that, with the support of close acquaintances, he has sought medical care abroad.
Mr. Cudjoe emphasized that Parkinson’s disease is not fatal, but requires long-term and often expensive treatment. He thanked those who have shown concern and support since his disclosure.
He further stated his intention to raise awareness about Parkinson’s disease and continue supporting the Parkinson’s support group in Ghana. He urged the public to avoid prolonged exposure to chemicals and to seek medical assessment if they notice changes in physical movement.
According to him, Parkinson’s may be hereditary, though research indicates this accounts for less than 10 percent of cases.
