The Ministry of Health (MoH) on Monday, January 12, 2026, opened a two-day leadership retreat in Ada to review the sector’s performance in 2025 and outline strategic priorities for 2026.

The retreat, chaired by the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has brought together the Chief Director and Directors of the Ministry, Board Chairpersons and members, Heads of Agencies, representatives of Civil Society Organisations, and other key stakeholders within the health sector.

Dubbed “Ministry of Health 2025 Performance Review and Outlook for 2026,” the meeting is focused on assessing progress made during the past year, identifying operational challenges, and strengthening coordination across institutions to improve health service delivery nationwide.

The programme features comprehensive review sessions on sectoral performance, presentations by MoH directorates and agencies, thematic discussions, and forward-looking planning for 2026.

Participants are expected to evaluate achievements recorded in 2025, align sector priorities, and address bottlenecks affecting efficiency and service quality.

The retreat officially commenced with opening remarks by the Chief Director of the Ministry of Health, followed by an address from the Minister of Health.

Over the two days, presentations are being delivered by various MoH directorates, including Policy, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation; Human Resource for Health; Infrastructure; Training and Capacity Development; and Technical Assistance and Donor Coordination, among others.

Key health agencies, including the Ghana Health Service, National Health Insurance Authority, Food and Drugs Authority, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, and Tamale Teaching Hospital, are also presenting their performance reports and institutional outlooks.

The retreat further includes presentations from regulatory bodies and professional councils such as the Nursing and Midwifery Council, Medical and Dental Council, Allied Health Professions Council, and Pharmacy Council, providing a comprehensive review of regulatory oversight and service delivery across the sector.

The 2026 strategic planning segment, to be led by the Minister, is expected to focus on policy direction, sector priorities, and collaborative actions required to accelerate progress towards Universal Health Coverage, improve access to essential health services, and strengthen system resilience.

Through the retreat, the Ministry of Health aims to promote high performance standards, improve resource efficiency, enhance evidence-based decision-making, and deepen cross-agency collaboration.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to building a strong, responsive, and people-centred health system capable of addressing current health needs and emerging public health threats.
