Akandoh: About 42% of Ghana’s Deaths Linked to NCDs

Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has revealed that non-communicable diseases (NCDs) account for nearly 42% of all deaths in Ghana, underscoring the urgent need for targeted interventions.

Speaking at the Accra Reset Addis Reckoning event in Addis Ababa on Saturday February 14, the Minister highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the health sector and tackle critical public health challenges.

To address this growing health concern, Akandoh announced the launch of Mahama Care, a dedicated fund aimed at supporting both the prevention and treatment of non-communicable diseases.

He confirmed that the programme is fully operational and seeks to reduce the burden of NCDs across the country.

“Since President Mahama took office, numerous reforms have been implemented in the health sector. We are taking our destiny into our own hands and investing resources where they are most needed.

“About 42% of our mortality is attributable to NCDs,” he added, illustrating the magnitude of the problem
