Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital has denied allegations of negligence following the death of a motorcycle rider, Mr Emmanuel Abaidoo, who was admitted to the facility’s Accident and Emergency Unit on Monday, September 14, 2026.

The allegations circulating on social media include claims that the Emergency Unit neglected Abaidoo because of an alleged bias against motorcycle riders, that the patient’s relatives were told medical oxygen was unavailable, and that no medical doctor attended to him before his death.

In a statement, Management of the hospital said the allegations did not reflect the care provided to the deceased, while extending its condolences to his family, friends and loved ones.

The hospital said it does not discriminate in providing healthcare and that every patient is entitled to appropriate clinical assessment and care regardless of occupation, background or circumstances.

Management said Abaidoo was received at the Accident and Emergency Unit, assessed and managed by the clinical team in accordance with the circumstances presented at the time.

It said the claim that no medical doctor attended to him was not consistent with the hospital’s records.

“The patient was received at the Accident and Emergency Unit, assessed, and managed by the clinical team in accordance with the circumstances presented at the time,” the statement said.

The hospital also rejected claims that medical oxygen was unavailable during the period in question.

According to Management, its Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) oxygen-generation plant was operational and continued to supply medical oxygen to the facility.

“Any suggestion that the Hospital was unable to provide oxygen because there was no oxygen available does not reflect the operational status of the Hospital’s oxygen supply system,” it said.

Management said it was prepared to provide the relevant clinical records and information through formal channels should a review or investigation into the case be undertaken.

The hospital also urged members of the public to allow the appropriate processes to establish the circumstances surrounding Abaidoo’s death and said it remained open to receiving formal complaints, evidence or additional information relating to the case.

It further appealed to the public to avoid circulating unverified allegations while the circumstances of the case are subject to review.
