The Information Services Department (ISD) has deployed its newly acquired LED digital vans to broadcast the launch of the government’s Free Primary Healthcare programme live to communities across Ghana, significantly expanding public access to the landmark event.
The initiative coincided with the official launch of the Free Primary Healthcare policy by President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at the Shai Osudoku Municipal Hospital in Dodowa.

While the launch brought together key stakeholders, health professionals, the media, and residents at the event grounds, the ISD ensured that citizens across the country were not left out by transmitting the programme live through its mobile digital platforms.
From bustling markets to busy lorry stations, the digital vans created viewing points in several parts of the country, including Sekondi, Cape Coast, Tamale, Bolgatanga, Goaso, Techiman, and major commercial centres such as Makola and Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.
Traders, drivers, passengers, and passersby gathered around the vans to follow proceedings as President Mahama outlined the government’s vision for transforming healthcare delivery in Ghana.
The Free Primary Healthcare initiative aims to shift the country’s health system from a focus on “sick care” to preventive and accessible healthcare, while removing financial barriers to achieving universal health coverage.
Across the various locations, many citizens expressed excitement after watching the live broadcast, describing the initiative as timely and impactful. Some also commended the government for bringing such important national programmes closer to the people.
ISD officers stationed at the various points engaged directly with the public, providing information about the policy and addressing questions, while assuring citizens of sustained public education on the programme.
The nationwide broadcast marks a significant step in ISD’s efforts to modernise public communication and deepen citizen engagement through innovative platforms.
By taking the launch beyond Dodowa and into communities across the country, the Department ensured that more Ghanaians could witness and better understand a policy expected to play a critical role in strengthening the country’s healthcare system.
