Madina Polyclinic Kekele will on Thursday, March 5, 2026, commission a newly constructed surgical theatre, marking a significant milestone in the facility’s 52-year history.

Established in 1974 as a Maternal and Child Health (MCH) unit, the polyclinic has over the decades provided essential healthcare services to mothers, children and the broader Madina community.

The addition of a surgical theatre is expected to enhance the facility’s capacity to deliver quality healthcare, including minor and emergency surgical procedures.

The project was sponsored by the Australian High Commission in Ghana under the leadership of Her Excellency Berenice Owen-Jones, who is expected to attend the commissioning ceremony. The Member of Parliament for Madina, Hon. Dr. Francis-Xavier Sosu, will also be in attendance, alongside other dignitaries, health officials and community leaders.

The Ag. Superintendent of the facility, Dr. Emmanuel Addo Asante, and his management team have expressed appreciation to all stakeholders who contributed to the successful completion of the project. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is also acknowledged for its support toward the initiative.

The commissioning ceremony is expected to draw representatives from the Ghana Health Service and other development partners as the community celebrates what is being described as a major boost to local healthcare delivery.

The new surgical theatre is anticipated to reduce referrals to other facilities, improve emergency response capacity and strengthen healthcare services for residents in Madina and surrounding areas.
