Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Saboba District Fire Station over the weekend prevented a major disaster after a fierce blaze broke out at the children’s ward of the Assemblies of God Hospital in Saboba Township.
The fire was detected at about 5:12pm by fire officers through a station outlook. A six-member crew was immediately dispatched to the scene and arrived promptly to begin firefighting operations.
Upon arrival, the team encountered a pump failure, which hampered initial efforts to fight the flames. However, the firefighters resorted to using buckets of water to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading further within the facility.

The blaze was brought under control at approximately 7:10pm and was fully extinguished by 7:25 pm.
Although ten rooms within the children’s ward were affected, firefighters managed to salvage several critical medical items, including computers, an incubator, a warmer, and other essential equipment.

No casualties were recorded in the incident. The cause of the fire has not yet been disclosed.
