The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has commenced steps to strengthen accountability and efficiency within the health sector with the rollout of an automated performance management system, supported by a nationwide training programme for staff.
In a Workshop Training organized in Accra, the Duputy Regional Direct of Health Services (Human Resource), Mr Kwaku Ameyaw Boateng announced that this is aimed at equipping officers with the knowledge and skills required to effectively implement the new automated GHS performance management system
On behalf of the Regional Director, he said the initiative forms part of broader efforts to modernise operations and improve performance monitoring across all levels of service delivery. He admonished participants, including District Directors, Medical Directors and Superintendents, Human Resource, Health Information and IT Officers, to embrace the initiative and make it a success.
According to Mr Ameyaw, the automated system is designed to streamline performance appraisal processes, enhance transparency, and improve the accuracy of reporting. By digitising performance management, the GHS expects to reduce delays associated with manual processes while ensuring that staff performance is assessed in a fair, objective, and timely manner.
The training focused on system use, data entry, performance tracking, and compliance with established guidelines. Participants were encouraged to cascade the knowledge acquired to other staff within their respective units to ensure smooth adoption of the system nationwide.
He further underscored the importance of full participation and cooperation from all staff, noting that effective use of the automated system when finally erolled will contribute to improved productivity, better supervision, and informed decision-making within the Service.
The rollout of the automated performance management system, yet to be announced, aligns with the Ghana Health Service’s digitalisation agenda and its commitment to strengthening institutional performance in support of quality healthcare delivery. All regional, district, and facility managers have been encouraged to support the training and ensure successful implementation of the system.
